Miss Universe 2011 Top Five features 2 Asians!!

Nah, pity Valerie Lim is not one of them. Well, comparing the 3 YouTube clips alone of hers, Miss Universe China Luo Zilin and Miss Universe Philippines Shamcey Supsup, I must admit Valerie Lim's video is...unique!!

Miss Philippines, Shamcey Supsup and Miss China, Luo Zilin made it to the Top Five of this year's Miss Universe pageant which took place in Sao Paolo, Brazil.

The winner, however, was Miss Angola, Leila Lopes.

The first-runner-up position went to Miss Ukraine, Olesia Stefanko, and second-runner-up went to Miss Brazil, Priscila Machado.

Both Asians, Miss Philippines, Shamcey Supsup and Miss China, Luo Zilin, took the third and fourth-runner-up positions respectively.

Before the results were announced, Philippine Daily Inquirer reported that a former winner of the Miss Universe title and a pageant expert had said that Miss Philippines stood a high chance of winning the crown this year.

MISS UNIVERSE 2011 3rd runner-up: Shamcey Supsup of Philippines

For the second consecutive year, the Philippines made it to the top five of the Miss Universe pageant with General Santos City native Shamcey Supsup bagging third runner-up in the Sept. 13 competition held at the CrediCard Hall in Sao Paolo, Brazil.

The magna cum laude graduate and architecture board topnotcher joined other candidates in the final five namely 2011 Miss Universe Leila Lopes of Angola, first runner-up Olesya Stefanko of Ukraine, second runner-up Priscila Machado of Brazil and fourth runner-up Luo Zi Lin of China

Although she did not bring home the crown, Shamcey topped the fan voting in the last round with a score of 7.5, followed by Miss Angola with 7.0.

Shamcey's father, Timoteo Supsup, is overjoyed with his daughter's achievement, telling ABS-CBN News in an interview on Tuesday, "Ang laking tuwa ko at nawala na 'yung aking nerbiyos. Pinag-pray ko [iyan] kagabi at nagkatotoo..."

One of the judges in this year's Miss Universe was Tony award-winning singer-actress and Disney legend Lea Salonga, who, incidentally, was assigned to Miss Angola during the Q& A portion.

Shamcey is the fourth Filipina to have placed third at the prestigious pageant after Lalaine Bennett (1963), Maria Rosario "Chat" Silayan (1980), and Maria Desiree "Des" Verdadero (1984). Last year’s bet Maria Venus Raj, meanwhile, placed fourth in the competition.

Path to the crown

In the announcement of the Top 16 finalists, Shamcey was the second to the last contestant called. Meanwhile, she was the seventh beauty and one of the two Asians (the other was Miss China) who was declared as part of the Top 10.

Shamcey both placed second in the fan polls of the swimsuit and evening gown competitions. She donned a yellow two-piece bikini with a light blue scarf which merited her a score of 7.0. The fans, meanwhile, gave Shamcey a score of 6.7 for her long, beige glittery gown. Miss Venezuela (9.1) and Miss Angola (7.2) respectively topped the two categories.

In the “Getting to Know the Top 10” VTR, Shamcey related her dreams of becoming an architect who will build “beautiful and sustainable structures” for her countrymen as well as that of becoming a teacher who will “hone young minds and prepare them for the future.”

From The Manila Bulletin, "Supsup is 3rd runner-up in Miss Universe 2011".

MISS UNIVERSE 2011 4th runner-up: Luo Zilin of China

At the Miss Universe finals which took place earlier today in Sao Paolo, Brazil, Miss China Luo Zilin (罗紫琳) entered top 5, and was named 4th runner-up.

Not a bad result -- all that prepping from Yue-Sai Kan might have helped.

In the final segment, each of the remaining top five contestants was asked a question. Miss China had the good fortune of picking a rather daft question, which was posed to her by Isabeli Fontana: "Nude beaches are common in some parts of the world. Is public nudity appropriate or inappropriate and why?"

Speaking through an interpretor, Luo answered, "Every country has its rules and regulations and every country has their own habits as well. We should respect them and be more understanding."

Leila Lopes of Angola was crowned Miss Universe 2011. Miss Ukraine, Miss Brazil and Miss Philippines took first, second and third runner-up positions respectively.

MISS UNIVERSE 2011 (possibly?) 16th runner-up: Valerie Lim of Singapore

Ms Leila Lopes from Angola was crowned Miss Universe yesterday night, smoothly handling an interview question about what physical trait she would change if she could by stating it was her inner beauty and principles that counted most.

The 25-year-old Ms Lopes is Angola's first winner. She beat out 88 other competitors to win the title during the 60th anniversary of the world's biggest beauty pageant. She replaces last year's winner, Ms Ximena Navarrete of Mexico.

"Thank God I'm very satisfied with the way God created me and I wouldn't change a thing," Ms Lopes said when asked her interview question. "I consider myself a woman endowed with inner beauty. I have acquired many wonderful principles from my family and I intend to follow these for the rest of my life."

The first runner-up was 23-year-old Ms Olesia Stefanko of Ukraine and the second runner-up was Ms Priscila Machado of Brazil. The third was Miss Philippines and the fourth Miss China.

"It was well deserved, we were cheering for her all along," said 36-year-old Sao Paulo resident Ms Carolina Rocha, a fan who attended the event. "Her smile and her friendliness was what set her apart from the others. She also answered her question very well, that likely helped her a lot."

Ms Valerie Lim, Singapore's representative in this year's Miss Universe, did not make it into the top 16.

From Today, "Leila Lopes of Angola is crowned Miss Universe".
